West Ham played out a bore-draw against League One outfit Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park this afternoon.

Sam Allardyce - who enjoyed his first success as Hammers boss against Copenhagen in Denmark on Wednesday night - sent out a strong side for the second successive game with the start of the Championship season just a fortnight away.

However his side barely tested their supposedly-inferior opponents, who probably enjoyed the better chances in a drab affair hardly littered with goalscoring opportunities.

The home side made the early running and striker Stuart Bevan, who has been afforded little room by James Tomkins and Jordan Spence should perhaps have done better with a rare free header inside the opening ten minutes.

West Ham - featuring Mexican winger Pablo Barrera, making his first appearance of pre-season - eventually rallied to finish the half the stronger of the two sides but rarely forced Wycombe goalkeeper Bull into action.

It was much the same after the break for West Ham who looked flat up front despite the lone striker's role being filled by Carlton Cole and his second half replacement, Freddie Piquionne.

As with the opening half, the best chance of the second 45 minutes fell to Wycombe when Joel Grant made a mess of a close range effort that would have had Rob Green well beaten.

''Is it fair to pass judgement on a pre season fixture? Sam surely has something up his sleeve.

''Why play a lone striker against Wycombe Wanderers?! Let me guess, Cole played as a target man with the ball played to his head? Let's hope we can offer more than that this season.''
