Tottenham Hotspur have slashed the price of a Champions League commemorative mug after the north Londoners were denied entry to the competition courtesy of Chelsea's win against Bayern Munich.
In the second most important game played on Saturday, 19th May, Chelsea's Champions League win in Germany meant that Tottenham - who had previously qualified for the competition by virtue of finishing fourth in last season's Premier League - were relegated to the Europa Cup.
And that meant that hapless Spurs, who endured a wretched end to the 2011/12 campaign were left with a surplus of specially-made commemorative mugs that celebrated their qualification for the tournament.
Fans of the club managed by Harry Redknapp are now able to buy a Champions League-embossed mug for a bargain £1 - an 80 PER CENT reduction on their original price of £5 each.
As an extra bonus, Spurs fans can purchase three mugs for the bargain price of just £2 thanks to a special offer on the club's website.

''A mug for mugs. Should sell well to the over-achieving, cocky, non-entities from White Hart Lane. Make sure one is reserved for Harry's mega-rich dog...''

''Your note about strange happenings at The Spuds website is correct. How mysterious! I checked this morning and Mugs Away! They were available then (bit of a tortology that; I'd assumed that mugs were never in short supply at Spurs, but there you go), anyway, I wanted to give my neighbour a present as he is a Spuds fan and is always kind enough to give me his opinion on West Ham and how they are doing, so I thought I'd get him sent one directly from his beloved club. I was really excited at the prospect of the expression on his face as he opened his little box, 'What could it be?'. He was sure to take it in good humour.
Then I started to think about all the other deserving Spurs fans I knew, and how they too might benefit from such a lovely momento; whilst I was not overjoyed at the prospect of putting money into their coffers, the additional volume discount offered of three for the price of two, a sort of sesqui-bogoff I suppose you could call it.
(Jermain),well, it did seem excellent value. So I composed a list of prospective recipients (I hoped they had enough in stock... so many Spurs mugs, so little time to make them happy) and got my credit card ready. Well, by the time it got to teabreak at work I was most disappointed to get on the net and find out that they had sold out over 18 months ago! That was a surprise! Just goes to show, doesn't it, how strange the universe is and that reality can be a tricky chap reality in the context of Daniel Levy and Spurs. Shame. Such a credible outfit. Oh, how I have missed them.''

''Ah, thank you for the laugh! Welcome back to the Premier League. Thanks again, tears in my eyes from laughing.
Maybe more Spuds would buy the mugs if they threw in a free copy of their new DVD - the first 35 minutes from the Emirates this season.''

''Although amusing seeing Spuds pay (although in amongst all that people seem to forget that shower from west London won the bloody Champions League, a sad day for football), anyone think this is cringeworthy for a West Ham site? Makes us look not only small time but slightly obsessed.''
