Jussi's delight

West Ham's first signing since the club's return to the Premier League was confirmed has been speaking about his new challenge.

Veteran goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen told the club's website that he was 'delighted' to be teaming up with former manager Sam Allardyce once again - whilst insisting that he was determined to move south once informed of Big Sam's interest.

"I'm delighted to be joining West Ham United," he said. "After spending 15 years in Bolton it's a great new challenge and I'm really looking forward to it.

"Everything has happened really quickly. When the opportunity was offered to come to West Ham I didn't think twice and I just told my agent to sort it out as quickly as possible.

"I appreciate Bolton giving me permission to speak to West Ham before my contract was up and for the efforts the Chairman made in trying to get me to stay.

"I would like to thank the fans for all their support over the years and I wish the players and, in particular, Owen Coyle all the best in gaining promotion at the first attempt."

The former Finnish international, who first joined Bolton at the age of 22 retired from international football three years ago - despite returning briefly in 2010.

Now 37, he is understood to have rejected the offer of a one-year contract with Bolton in order to team up with Allardyce once again at the Boleyn Ground.

Jaaskelainen has signed an initial one-year deal with the option of a further year.
