Southend United's Bilel Mohsni could make his first appearance in a West Ham shirt at Colchester this weekend.
The 24-year-old central defender has revealed that he is currently on trial with the Hammers - and he is in line to make an appearance at the Weston Homes Stadium this weekend when Sam Allardyce's side take on the Essex side in their latest pre-season friendly.
Speaking via his Facebook page last night, the Shrimpers defender - who can also play up front - said: "I am leaving the club; I dont know where I will sign and I only discovered that West Ham were taking me on trial a couple of days ago.
"I want to play at a higher level but I will never forget the Blues, Southend United. Thanks to the fans for the support, the Chairman and [manager] Paul Sturrock and the squad I played with.
"I have some very good memories and wish you all the best for the new season. I hope to see Southend United in the Premier League [one day]."
Mohsni became a cult figure at Southend after joining them two years ago having snubbed the chance to remain in France.
A controversial figure, he has been sent off three times in the last two years, twice travelled home alone from away games having fell out with his fellow employees whilst making a number of appearances in the local press for his off-field antics.
Speaking to the local press back in May, he said: "I can understand people thinking I’m mad and crazy because I sometimes look back at videos of myself in games and think the same. But I’m not crazy, I’m just me.
"I just hate losing and react badly to it. I think my temper has improved and I have tried hard to not lose my cool. I have to say I find it harder to do that when I’m playing as a striker - and I think maybe it’s a good idea if I don’t play there again because that’s when I get most annoyed."
