Two days and counting

There are just 48 hours remaining until the summer transfer window closes - and West Ham are no nearer to landing any of their prime targets, as things stand.

The transfer embargo kicks in once again on Friday evening, before when all Premier League clubs are stepping up their efforts to boost their squads for the next four months.

And West Ham have been as active as any other club in the last few days with Sam Allardyce keen to tie up at least two players before the deadline.

Key positions for the West Ham manager are central defence and in attack, and with that in mind Liverpool's Andy Carroll remains an option - despite all the signals pointing to the 23-year-old preferring to remain on Merseyside. His current club however do not appear so keen to retain his services.

Another player linked with a move to Upton Park this morning is Argentinian international Lucas Biglia, who currently plays for Anderlecht. The 25-year-old defensive midfielder has represented his country on five occasions and has been a huge hit in Belgium.

According to journalist James Nursey, the source of this particular story, the highly-rated Biglia's arrival would depend on Mark Noble departing. Safe to mark this one as 'extremely unlikely'.

Meanwhile a number of players linked with West Ham over the summer either have or are in the process of tieing up deals with new clubs - including Cameroonian defender Stephane Mbia, who is on his way to Queens Park Rangers.

Elsewhere Tottenham have moved to snap up Marseille striker Loic Remy, who is on the verge of completing a move to north London in a £15million deal. Remy was also linked with a move to West Ham two years ago.

Finally, spare a thought however for former Hammers 'keeper Robert Green, who has been replaced at Queens Park Rangers after just two games of the new season by Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar.

Green, who moved to Loftus Road on a free transfer back in July has already indicated that he will look to leave the West London club in January should he remain Mark Hughes' second choice.
