Cole set for recall

Carlton Cole could be set for a first team return against Chelsea at the Boleyn Ground this lunchtime.

Regular striker Andy Carroll is a major doubt having sustained a knee injury and that leaves Cole - who began his career at Stamford Bridge - poised to replace the on-loan centre-forward for today's game.

Carroll, who is at the club on a season-long loan has already spent three weeks out of action having sustained a hamstring injury on his debut.

And Sam Allardyce revealed this week that the 23-year-old - who cannot play against parent club Liverpool next weekend either - is struggling to be fit for today's game.

Cole, 29 last month has failed to hit the net in any of his 12 appearances thus far this season although the vast majority of those have come from the bench as he plays second fiddle to Carroll.

West Ham vs Chelsea kicks off at 12.45pm.
