Olympic Stadium images released

West Ham United have released the first artist's impressions of the proposed new £150million roof at the Olympic Stadium.

The new images illustrate how the new structure will look when the Stratford-based arena is due to re-open for football in the summer of 2016.

And the club have also released two architectural designs of the new internal structure, revealing for the first time just how the vast area between the upper and lower tiers will be bridged - and also how close the new retractable stands will be to the pitch.

The first of the two images reveales how the stadium - with its brand new, curved lower tier - will appear when in non-football mode, with the stands retracted beneath the upper tier of seating.

Meanwhile the second picture shows the stadium as West Ham United supporters will mostly see it - that's in full football mode, with the stands extended over the running track and to within a few yards of the playing surface.

The transformation of the Olympic Stadium into an arena fit for hosting Premier League football is expected to cost between £150-200million, with West Ham (controversially, according to some) paying just £15million of that figure.
