Reid signs two-year extension

Winston Reid has ended speculation regarding his future by putting pen to paper on a two-year contract extention with West Ham.

The popular Kiwi, who joined West Ham in August 2010 in a £4million switch from Danish club FC Midtjylland is firmly in the running for KUMB.com's Player of the Year Award following an excellent season at the heart of West Ham's defence, where he has formed a formidable partnership with james Collins.

And it was announced earlier today that Reid - who was out of contract this summer - has extended his stay in east London until 2015, having signed a two-year contract extension.

"I've really enjoyed being here," he told whufc.com. "It's a good club and we've done really well over the last couple of years. Now, I'm looking forward to the next two years.

"I think I have played some good football over the last two years but that goes for the whole team as well. Hopefully we can continue that. Of course we now plan to build on the last two seasons."

Reid looked a long way from the established Premier League player he currently is when making his debut for West Ham at Aston Villa on the opening day of the 2010/11 season.

Played at right back by Avram Grant, the 24-year-old endured a nightmare start with his performance described as "a horrible debut" on this very website. And it wasn't until the following season - and West Ham's relegation to the Championship - that Reid began to show signs of his obvious talent.

Voted by readers of KUMB.com as the club's Most Improved Player for the 2011/12 season - a far cry from the previous year when he was behind only Robbie Keane and Pablo Barrera in the Worst Signing category - Reid was instrumental in leading West Ham back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Having now fully settled into life in England, Reid - who has made 79 appearances in claret and blue, scoring five goals in the process - is now considered by Sam Allardyce to be one of the first names on his team sheet.
