Carroll set for medical

Andy Carroll finally looks set to become a Hammer after agreeing a long-term deal.

The 24-year-old striiker, who spent last season on loan at the Boleyn Ground is expected to rubber-stamp a permanent move after a medical, which is scheduled to take place imminently, is completed.

Carroll, who remains Britain's most expensive player after Liverpool paid Newcastle United 35million for his services two years ago returned from an end-of-season holiday in the United States last night and is expected to complete his move to West Ham within the next few hours.

West Ham's co-chairman David Gold, speaking via his Twitter account last night said: "The Andy Carroll deal is important to us and equally important to Andy. We must dot every 'i' and cross every 't'; we must be patient."

West Ham have agreed a fee worth just over 15million for the England striker, who will earn between 80,000 and 100,000 per week having signed a six-year contract. That figure dwarfs United's previous transfer record fee of 10.75million, paid to Wolves for Matt Jarvis last summer.

News of Carroll's impending arrival has been mostly met with approval from the club's supporters, many of whom have been posting on the KUMB Forum this morning.
