Stewart Downing is on his way to London ahead of talks and a medical with West Ham.
The 29-year-old Liverpool and England winger is set to meet club officials tomorrow [Tuesday] in order to thrash out personal terms over a proposed permanent move to the Boleyn Ground.A highly-placed source at West Ham told KUMB: "It's very close. I think it's probably 75 per cent.
"50 per cent yesterday, 75 per cent today. But if somebody rings him up with a better offer tonight, then they're off. I don't see it [happening], but if Man United rang him up tonight he'd jump ship."
Earlier reports that Downing was in London today proved to be wide of the mark, although a fee was agreed between the two clubs over the weekend.
* Less than a month ago, assistant manager Neil McDonald had dismissed rumours of a move for Downing.
"He's a very good player and I think West Ham being involved with a player of that calibre would be great," he told Talksport, "but it's all paper talk at the moment."
