The opposition view: Newcastle Utd

Newcastle fans were, understandably perhaps, less than enamoured by their team's performance in a goalless draw that saw them create 16 shots on goal - but not a single one on target...

"Well, that was truly awful. A better team than West Ham will spank us. 15 attempts and none on target is the most telling statistic to take away from this. Investment up front needed like a heart transplant."

"Did anybody watch Match of the Day? They really put into perspective how poor we were. West Ham were very unlucky to not win that. I thought we were the worst footballing side in the whole of the Premier League yesterday - as we were also the worst on the first weekend. This is a very bad start and having a point on the board helps to hide some of the problems. Need serious improvement quickly."

"It's the final third where we have issues. Very little creativity and when it comes to troubling the goalkeeper. The giant '0' in a certain column today says everything that needs to be said. We'd have been punished by a better team today. That's no disrespect to West Ham, just that they had chances to find the net and couldn't convert them. We all bailed out the box when Reid found himself standing alone about four yards out, he looked shocked and managed to hook it over the bar. Nolan should have buried that header at the near post too. Unlike him and very lucky for us."

"It was an utterly shocking performance. Definitely a point gained rather than two lost, because West Ham are a terrible side in their own right, play horrible football, rely on "skin of the teeth" performances every week - but still have a better team. I would say only three players had a good day: Santon, Sissoko and Colo. This entire team needs an overhaul, but they're not going to get it."

"We're at home and didn't have a single shot on target, not even one, and we had a chance from two yards out and put it over! It really was pretty awful. No-one is asking for champagne football, but is it too much to ask that you get a single attempt on target in an hour-and-a-half, at home, against West Ham?"
- Ant

"So Pardew has labelled West Ham 'long ball'. Does he know which team played the most long balls in the Premier League last season? Does he realise how stupid, frustrating and hypocritical he is being? He needs to keep his mouth shut. His main tactic for the last two years has been long ball and then he goes and talks about West Ham as if his Newcastle team don't play long ball football!"
- BenArfa10

"West Ham hardly posed a threat today. Their attacking is as average as it gets in my opinion, lacking in any sort of flair, yet they had the better chances."
- Majestic

"We should have held on to Kevin Nolan when we had him, just like when we had Scott Parker. We don't look hungry for the points, I just think this team doesn't work."
- geordie-warlord

"We made many improvements on the City game. I don't know if it's because the team as a whole got better or because our opponents were West Ham. Ben Arfa was lively and clearly wants to make a difference, but got let down by his team mates and was forced to shoot from outside the box without any effect. We are still as clueless as ever in front of goal. Anyway cheers for our first point. Hope this won't be the last."
- veriaqa

"Let's try to be positive: compared with last year, that is a vast improvement so far. We lost away 4-0 vs Man City, just like last season and we draw against West Ham this year compared to a 1-0 defeat last year..."
