The opposition view: Burnley

We're spoiling you this week with two OV's within 72 hours. Unsurprisingly, the former Blackburn Rovers manager came in for a bit of stick following last night's 2-0 win that took the Hammers through to the Capital One Cup quarter finals...

"What a disgraceful display from Sam and his bench in the last five minutes. From the moment they won the clinching penalty they were goading the fans in the Bob Lord. Collinson and others ran up to the fans in the Bob Lord after they had scored the pen. Then, Allardyce turned around at the final whistle and sneered at the Burnley fans for a prolonged period before walking straight off to greet his Hammers fans without having the grace to shake Dyche's hand. This from a man who thought he might have what it takes to manage the national side."

"I dislike Sam Allardyce intensely and not just for his connection with our friends up the road [Blackburn]. However I expect he got dogs' abuse at various stages of his visit to the Turf last night. I expect the subs bench were aware of this and therefore can we really blame him for gleefully sneering in the general direction of some of that abuse? He will no doubt have told his troops just how much he would like to put one over on us and warned them, seige mentality and all that."

"Allardyce is not a likeable bloke. His teams don't play pretty football but he has cornered the niche (extremely lucrative for him) market in keeping bottom end clubs in the Premier League. West Ham will not go down under him but the fans may eventually get so fed up with the style of play that he will have to leave (see Pulis & Stoke). They deserved it on the night after a poor second half from us when our work rate levels dropped. No disgrace though, they have better players than us and their subs bench showed what strength in depth will be required if, dare I say, we get promotion."

"My first reaction to Shackell's challenge was that it was a penalty. He looked to have his arms around Nolan's waist and appeared to drag him to the floor. In this day and age you're treading a fine line if you hold the player like that, irrespective of whether you win the ball or not and as Nolan was going away from goal, I can also see why the ref would give a yellow card. The second was a nailed on penalty as it was a clear goal scoring opportunity, Treacy has to go whether he's last man or not. I thought it was a silly tackle to make, especially at that stage if the game."

"I haven't seen a worse side at the Turf in years judging by their first half performance. Whilst they were struggling to control the ball we were stroking passes around and toying with their team for the whole half. Shame we created so few chances (largely due to such a defensive setup from Big Sam). Second half, not so great. As the game went on our midfield two looked cumbersome and in the end we were robbed. WHU came for a draw (in a Cup game) and walked away with a win they never earned, but such is life."

"I'm old enough to remember Ron Greenwood - who hailed from Burnley - and John Lyall, both respected managers of WHU. Sam Allardyce is not fit to be in the same company as these two ex managers. A shameful example last night of this classless man's flawed persona. As for Collison, I could not be more surprised. I foolishly returned a V-sign from row C, along with 500 others sat nearby. Somehow I couldn't see Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters or indeed Trevor Brooking making such exhibitions of themselves in a WHU shirt. A disgrace to the game of football."

"What a shame we didn't get an early goal when we were so much better than them. They came out in a different frame of mind in the second half with a few changes and some experienced players coming on the pitch. The referee ruined the game. As usual favoured West Ham. We lost to two penalties, a dubious first one! It's a poor show when a Premier League team can only beat us by two penalties. And it was disgusting how the West Ham players and Sam Allardyce goaded the fans in the Bob Lord stand. He didn't rush over to Mr Dyche to shake his hand either."

"Overall a good first half, but our poorest second half all season. We stopped doing what has got us where we are in the league. The ceaseless running dried up and we invited trouble - and it came in the form of a dodgy penalty. Our second string midfield looked so last year by the time 70 minutes was ticking past and were standing still knackered. That's not something we're used to these days."

"The referee has mugged us tonight, no doubt about it. We were the better side by far in the first half with Edgar and Stock dominating West Ham. They made the changes at half time and it swung the game in their favour, but we created the better chances throughout the game. Their 'keeper made a couple of top saves and we hit the bar. What is important is that the squad players have shown they can come in and step up to the mark. A huge positive."

"A good game but it was always going to be a moment of magic or a referee that would settle it. We were miles better first half, they really pushed us back in the second, but it was heading for extra time till the penalty. Big positives were that our makeshift midfield played well though West Ham did stretch us more than any other team has this season."
