Elliot Lee has returned to West Ham after ending his loan spell at League One Colchester United early.

It is unknown at this point exactly why Lee has returned to Upton Park prior to the end of his month-long loan spell but that's exactly what happened this morning as the 18-year-old, who was eligible to play for Colchester in this weekend's League One clash at Preston said goodbye to his fellow team mates.

U's boss Joe Dunne attempted to explain the reason for the early end to Lee's spell with Colchester - without actually saying too much. "We had a chat in the week and Elliot has gone back to West Ham," he said. "It was his first loan as a young player and there’s plenty to learn.

"Elliot will go back a stronger person for it and use what he’s learnt here over the last few weeks and take it into his next loan - because I feel he’ll need another one."

During his spell alongside former Hammers Freddie Sears and Dominic Vose, Lee made four appearances for the Essex club, scoring once - a 90th minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Rotherham on 2nd November.
