West Ham's walking wounded find themselves ahead at the break in this afternoon's crucial Premier League clash at Cardiff.

Despite losing Guy Demel to an horrific injury early on - one that required ten minutes of treatment before the defender could be stretchered off the field - Carlton Cole's 42nd-minute strike gives West Ham a vital lead at the break.

The goal came from the right side of the field and started with Stewart Downing, whose near-post cross was glanced on by Jack Collison for Cole to smash home from the edge of the six-yard box.

Despite failing to register, the home side have had their fair share of goalscoring opportunities and the recently-introduced goal line technology was required to confirm that Kim's deflected shot had not crossed the line prior to Adrian recovering the ball on 32 minutes.

An additional ten minutes injury time were played to account for Demel's injury. Unconfirmed reports suggest he has a fractured elbow plus facial injuries.

We'll have more for you at the final whistle...
