Striker deal back on?

West Ham's chances of making a last-minute deadline day signing are rapidly receding - although one late, unexpected development could change all that.

It had been thought that the deal to sign Leeds United's Ross McCormack was dead in the water, however that could be all set to change following a day of extraordinary events at Elland Road.

Earlier tonight it was revealed that the Championship club had fired manager Brian McDermott - much to the fury of his captain McCormack, who only hours earlier had Tweeted that "I look forward to continue playing at the club under Brian McDermott".

The striker responded by speaking live to SSN reporter Bryan Swanson, slamming Leeds for making the decision on the final day of the transfer window. That is thought to have alerted several Premier League and Championship clubs.

In other deadline day news, Joleon Lescott has claimed that his decision to reject a move to West Ham was not a financial one. Posting via Twitter the Manchester City defender said: "A loan move was never on the cards for me.

"It had nothing to do with wages, just a chance to win four trophies with City this season."
