Sam Allardyce has revealed that he attended last weekend's Nürnberg versus Wolfsburg clash in order to run the rule over Swiss striker Josip Drmic.

The 21-year-old striker has been linked with a number of clubs across Europe, predominantly because his contract is reported to contain a £5million release clause.

However Allardyce admitted that his mission was essentially wasted due to Wolfsburg's dominance in the game, which they won 4-1 at the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday afternoon.

"I was at Nuremberg versus Wolfsburg," he confirmed. "They got beat quite comfortably so in terms of that particular player, you wouldn't be able to judge him on that game because they got battered."

Both West Ham and tonight's Premier League opponents Arsenal have expressed an interest in signing Drmic, who has hit the target 16 times for Der Altmeister in the Bundesliga this season.

Born of Croatian descent in 1992, the striker came through the ranks at FC Zurich before signing a four-year contract with FC Nürnberg in July 2013.

He has represented Switzerland from Under 18 level upwards and has made five appearances for the full international squad since making his debut in a 2-0 win over Albania in September 2012.
