West Ham failed to capitalise on an early advantage in tonight's London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Matt Jarvis gave the Hammers the lead five minutes ahead of half time with a close range header after some good work on the right side by Stewart Downing and Antonio Nocerino. But United's lead was to last just four minutes before Lukas Podolski equalised for the home side with little more than a minute of normal time left to play in the opening half.
Jarvis - who stayed on his feet following a dubious challenge in the penalty area earlier in the half when a penalty looked the more likely outcome - scored after Nocerino's effort has been palmed away by goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
The Italian, who had been set up by a clever through ball from Downing was first to the rebound which fell kindly for Jarvis to nod into an empty net.
However West Ham's lead was to last for just four minutes before the home side restored parity following a mistake by Downing, who moments earlier had played a major part in giving West Ham the lead.
The former England man's poor clearance from the byeline was picked up 25 yards from goal by Santi Cazorla, who fed Podolski with a clever pass that the German international fired across Adrian into the far corner.
