West Ham are being linked with a winter transfer window move for Porto's experienced interntaional defender Rolando Jorge Pires da Fonseca.

The 29-year-old centre half- popularly known simply as 'Rolando' - spent last season on loan with Inter in Italy, where he made 29 appearances as I Nerazzurri finished fifith in Serie A.

Yet despite having a clause inserted in his contract whereby Milan could have made the deal permanent this summer, 6'2" Rolando returned to his parent club at the end of last season - even though the Italian club are also rumoured to be keen to take him back to Italy in January.

West Ham's need for an additional central defender has become more acute in recent weeks with Winston Reid, who is out of contract next summer, having failed to sign a contract extension.

The right-footed Rolando, who has been capped 19 times for his country and is out of contract next summer is said to be valued around the €1.5million mark and is rumoured to be interesting the likes of West Brom and Turkish giants Galatasary, as well as the Hammers.
