Sam Allardyce believes that Andy Carroll's recent engagement will be of benefit to his professional career.

Big Sam, who has been married to wife Lynn for more than 35 years was delighted when Carroll recently announced his engagement to 'The Only Way Is Essex' cast member Billi Mucklow.

And Allardyce insists that when a player settled down, it tends to have a positive affect on a player's career.

"Andy has now got a different life - romance has blossomed," he said. "It can be very good for a footballer when they settle down off the field.

"When you have a relationship, you start building on that relationship by the fondness you have for each other," he said. "I think that can only be good for Andy and his football."
