However having fully recovered, the West Ham midfielder has been named in Roy Hodgson's starting XI to face Scotland tonight.

The match is being broadcast live on TV in the UK and can be seen on ITV from 7.30pm.

England Starting XI

Forster, Clyne, Shaw, Milner, Cahill, Smalling, Wilshere, Downing, Welbeck, Rooney (c), 11 Chamberlain.

Subs: Chambers, Foster, Henderson, Walcott, Jagielka, Gibbs, Lambert, Sterling, Lallana, Barkley, Berahino.
