George Moncur has completed a permanent switch to Colchester United.
Moncur, who has effectively been on trial with the Essex club since the beginning of the season put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year contract yesterday, ending his long association with West Ham.And the combative 21-year-old midfielder admitted that whilst he was sad to be leaving West Ham, he was equally excited by the challenge his move brings.
"There is some sadness about leaving West Ham because I was there for a good few years and I had some great times there," he told cu-fc.com. "My Dad spent a few years there as well so I’ll miss it, but I've got a new challenge in front of me now.
"I have got to thank the people at West Ham, especially Nick Haycock and Ian Hendon who spent a lot of time with me and improved my game. I'm now looking forward to life with Colchester United and progressing my career."
Goerge's father John will no doubt be delighted at his son's move; speaking exclusively to the KUMB Podcast recently, Moncur Snr felt that a permanent move away from West Ham was the best scenario.
"It's been a terrible year for him [George] after what happened at Nottingham Forest," he said. "I think it was unfair. I'm not bitter, but what happened there to the kids was ridiculous.
"If you like a player and have high hopes for him you blood them into good teams, like all good clubs and managers do. Basically, that was just throwing them to the lions. So he's had to put up with that and all the stick they got."
