Everton v West Ham Utd: half time report

West Ham can consider themselves somewhat unfortunate to be behind at the half time break in this afternoon's Premier League clash at Goodison Park.

Despite clearly standing in an offside position at the time the ball was played, Romelu Lukaku's 26th minute effort was allowed to stand by referee Mark Clattenburg.

And the home side were to have further reason to be grateful to the match official, who opted against booking Steven Naismith for a cynical challenge from behind on Mark Noble and then only issued a caution to James McCarthy for a dangerous challenge that left Morgan Amalfitano in a heap.

Although Everton largely controlled the half - enjoying 67 per cent of possession - both sides managed five efforts at goal, although the Toffees managed to hit the target twice as opposed to West Ham's one effort that forced a save from Tim Howard.

Andy Carroll, restored to the starting line up in a team decimated by injury - Song, Kouyate, Downing, Valencia and Sakho all out - certainly troubled the Everton defence, even if unable to convert any of the three chances that fell to him.

However the Hammers will certainly have to step up in the second half if they are to salvage anything from this fixture.
