West Ham are being linked with a move for Watford's Italian defender Gabriele Angella, according to reports emanating from Italy.

The 25-year-old centre half has spent the last 18 months at Vicarage Road where he has continued to impress and that, say tuttomercatoweb.com, has led West Ham and West Brom to make tentative enquiries into the player's availability.

Angella, who began his professional career with Udinese joined Watford on a free transfer in July 2013, since when he has made more than 50 starts for the Hornets. Only last month he was linked with a return to his former club, who were also keen to take Angella back to Italy last summer.

One Watford fan, posting on wfcforums.com recently, said of Angella: "He's an absolute class player. Everything he does is so effortless and assured. He's by far the best centre back we've had in the 15 years I've followed Watford."

Whilst another added: " I think he will go on to become a stalwart in defence of a big Italian club for years to come. It is a pleasure to watch him play."
