City fans blast risible FIFA fine

Bristol City fans have blasted FIFA 's decision to hit West Ham with a token fine for fielding Diafra Sakho in their recent FA Cup tie.

Although the majority of Robins fans who responded to a poll in a local newspaper voted against West Ham being thrown out of the FA Cup, they have still been surprised at the tiny fine imposed - a figure some £20,000 less than West Ham were awarded by progressing to the 5th round.

"I was never particularly bothered about being reinstated but that punishment is laughable," wrote OTIB member cider-manc. "Things like this make me hate the 'best league in the world' - and the less said about those that run the game, the better."

And chipdawg added: "I thought that if found guilty of wrongdoing, all results involving the player in question were overturned? Seems like a fudge to me, but if we end up with a decent wedge of compensation over the affair I don't really care that much."

Thoughts echoed by Andy082005, who complained: "They have been fined, so technically that means they have done something wrong. As a direct result of this wrong doing, they benefited . We on the other hand, are the only team being punished now. Surely we should be compensated for this?"

The issue of compensation is one that is yet to be addressed by either club, although Bristol City may well feel they have a case to raise with the FA.

It was only eight years ago that West Ham were fined £5million by the Premier League for breaching rules relating to third-party ownership. However the Hammers were subsequently hit with a £25million fine - a settlement reached out of court - following legal action undertaken by Sheffield United.

Neither West Ham United or Bristol City had commented on FIFA's decision, at time of writing.
