The injury-pone Andy Carroll could be out of action for the rest of season with cruciate ligament damage.

The England international was forced to limp through the last 15 minutes of West Ham's goalless draw at St Mary's on Sunday as Sam Allardyce had used his three permitted substitutes.

And it has been revealed this afternoon that the 26-year-old striker is set to miss the remainder of the season - at least.

The club confirmed this morning that Carroll is set to undergo tests next Tuesday to determine the extent of the damage, and to ascertain whether surgery is required.

"Andy Carroll will have surgery on his injured knee on Tuesday following assessment by a specialist on Friday afternoon," read a brief statement on whufc.com this afternoon.

"The recovery phase is expected to keep Carroll out for the remainder of the 2014/15 season."
