Former West Ham midfielder Alou Diarra has signed for Championship side Charlton on a short-term contract.

The 33-year-old defensive midfielder joins the Addicks seven months after he was released by West Ham following a stormy two years at the club.

"He will add some height, experience, and most of all, quality to the midfield," said Charlton boss Guy Luzon.

"It's a coup for us that we can attract a player with so much international experience and I'm sure he will be fantastic for us."

The former French international made a total of just 14 appearances for West Ham during his spell at the Boleyn.

Signed from Olympique Marseille in the summer of 2012, Diarra was in the news for his continuous complaints more often than for his efforts on the pitch during his spell at West Ham.
