Carl Jenkinson says that the opportunity to work with new West Ham manager Slaven Bilic was am important factor in his return to the Boleyn Ground.

The 23-year-old full back has returned to West Ham for a second consecutive season, on loan, from Arsenal. And he revealed this afternoon that it was Bilic's words that persuaded him to return for the 2015/16 campaign.

"I know from speaking to the boss on the phone his style of football, how he wants to play and his philosophy," Jenkinson told whufc.com.

"Hearing what he had to say and how he wants to play football was an attraction for me and that's one of the reasons I signed here. He sounds like he's going to be a great manager and I'm glad to be a part of that.

"It's going to be good; I've got to come in, show what I can do and prove myself to a new manager. That's good, it keeps you on your toes - and I've got to go and do that in pre-season. I'm looking forward to it."

Jenkinson also confirmed that, as reported on KUMB throughout the summer, he had set his sights on a return to the Boleyn Ground since the end of last season.

Jenkinson in relaxed mood as he talks to the club's website about his new contract

"I just wanted to come back here and I'm happy things have got sorted out," he said. "I've got another season here and I can't wait. I enjoyed every minute last year so it's a pleasure to be here again.

"I'm a young player and I haven't had too many experiences of different clubs, but I loved every minute of it here. Everything about the club is fantastic and it's a real family club. The lads are great, the fans are great; it ticks all the boxes you want when you join a football Club.

"Last year was the first year I've played regularly every week and I was a different person on and off the pitch. I found my love for the game again - you forget how much that means to you as a player. I just want to do that again and I can't wait to get started."
