Diego Poyet says West Ham will be going for the win when they tackle Birkirkara in the second leg of tonight's Europa League second qualifying round clash.
The young midfielder could feature here in Malta tonight having shone for an experienced Hammers XI at Southend on Saturday. And should he do so, it'll be no more than the 20-year-old deserves, following some promising early pre-season performances.
"Training is sharp and we're ready," he told KUMB. "Win and we've gone through two stages of the Europa League, so it's very pleasing and very exciting for everyone.
"Obviously we wanted it to be a bit more comfortable but a win's a win at the end of the day. We go there confident that we can finish it off by winning the game.
"We'll not be playing for a draw, we'll be looking to win the game with another solid performance and then see who we get in the next round.
"But before we think about the next round we need to get a result in Malta. Then we'll see who we get. But everyone's really excited and wants to play every game, as you can imagine."
West Ham have taken an experienced squad to Malta for the second leg, in which they are defending a narrow 1-0 advantage.
And Poyet believes there will be plenty of competition for places, with everyone wanting a taste of the Europa League - experienced or otherwise.
"Everyone wants to play as it's a competitve game and it's Europe, so everyone wants to be involved," confirmed Poyet. "There's a lot of pre-season games from here to Arsenal where people will get the chance to try and impress and show the manager what they can do.
"Some of the boys have played in Europe before, some haven't, so everyone's fighting for their place and we'll see what happens. It's very exciting for the fans, being the last season at Upton Park as well so I'm sure it's going to be a great season for us."
