Injury curse strikes again as Valencia diagnosed with 'significant injury'

Enner Valencia could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a knee injury during last night's 2-2 Europa League draw with Astra Giurgiu.

The Ecuador international had been on the field for little more than 25 minutes when he was forced to withdraw - via a stretcher - due to the injury.

And West Ham confirmed this afternoon that the 25-year-old will see a specialist early next week to determine the extent of the damage.

"Enner sustained what initially appears to be a significant injury to his right knee and right ankle," read a statement on whufc.com. "The Ecuador forward will see a specialist consultant at a clinic in central London on Monday morning.

"It is too early to put a timescale on how long Enner's recovery and rehabilitation period may be."

Valencia was making only his third appearance of pre-season and his first at the Boleyn Ground, when he sustained the injury.
