Risky business, but a risk worth taking

An image purporting to be Alex Song leaving the Spire Roding Hospital in Redbridge has been posted on social media tonight.

Song - who Chairman David Sullivan revealed exclusively on this week's KUMB West Ham Podcast was on his way back to the club subject to a medical - was pictured earlier this evening (Friday) leaving the Redbridge-based health centre with a member of West Ham's backroom team.

Sullivan, responding to a supporter's question about the possibility of Song returning on a permanent basis revealed that the deal was all but done.

""He's a player we all admire and we just hope that the medical shows he's in a sufficient state for us to gamble," he said. "He couldn't physically pass a medical tomorrow, but if the medics say it's just a technical thing and he's only a couple of weeks away you'd take that gamble and hope they're right."

Slaven Bilic, talking about Song's potential return - and likelihood of passing a medical - said: "Every player you sign is a risk. Players get injured. What is important for me is the report of his progress after his operation.

"That is why we waited so long. He was on our list from the start of the transfer window. He got injured and we wanted to limit the risk by waiting a little bit to see how he was going to recover from his operation a few weeks ago.

"From the reports it looks like he is doing really well. He is ahead of schedule and it wasn’t a major operation in the first place. With any player there is a risk but we are very confident. Based on the reports, the risk is practically only theoretical and it’s Alex Song, so I will risk that."
