The seats may be claret and blue, but we're no longer United

West Ham United have revealed a new draft image of how the East Stand Kop will look at the Olympic Stadium - whilst omitting a third of the club's name from the final design.

As you can see below the new Kop stand will be filled with claret and blue seats and emblazoned with the words West Ham. However the word 'United', which has been part of the club's name for 115 years - is nowhere to be seen.

That follows the club's new crest design which does feature the word 'United', albeit in a smaller font than the words 'West Ham' - and features the word 'London' for the first time ever.

No longer United: how the new Kop is set to look

Vice-Chiarman Karren Brady revealed five years ago that she was taken with the idea of changing the club's name from West Ham United to West Ham Olympic - before David Gold stepped in to defuse the row.

Talking today abut the new Kop design on whufc.com this morning (Thursday), Brady said: "I am proud to unveil our final designs for the seating at our new home. My Board’s aim is always to exceed our supporters' expectations.

"After detailed consultation with our Supporter Advisory Board and other fan groups it became clear that this matter was of paramount importance to them and reaffirmed our belief that we must work day and night to pursue a solution that they would be proud of.

"We have always pledged that the new Stadium will look and feel like West Ham’s home and today’s announcement is further evidence that we have absolutely kept our promise."

The transformation of the stadium into a home fit for football purposes is set to continue following the culmination of the Rugby World Cup, which takes place at the Olympic Stadium between 18 September and 31 October.
