West Ham's Dimitri Payet has been dumped by French boss Didier Deschamps for their forthcoming friendlies against Portugal and Serbia.

Both Payet and fellow English-based French international Mamdou Sakho, who plays for Liverpool, have been omitted from Deschamps' 23-man squad that will represent the French in the two matches next month.

£18million Sakho and £11million Payet - who French TV recently names as the player who would be most missed in Ligue 1 this year - have both been told that they need to be more consistent if they wish to retain their places in the squad.

Talking about Payet, Descamps said: "I expect better and I expect more. I already told him this. He had a very good first game against Arsenal but we followed his first three matches and I made a choice for these two matches."
