Enner Valencia has been ruled out of action until the new year - just as Dimitri Payet was last week.

The Ecuador international has just returned from a long-term injury when he was injured during the 1-1 draw with Everton, like his French team mate who sustained ankle ligament damage following a reckless challenge by James McCarthy.

And it has been confirmed by the club that the 26-year-old striker, nicknamed 'Superman' in his home country will be sidelined until the new year as a result.

"Valencia was advised that he needs an extended rehabilitation period, which has now begun. It is expected that he will be fully recovered by the beginning of the New Year," read a statement on West Ham's website this morning.

Both Valencia and Payet have visited specialists today in order to assess their injuries.

Valencia was making only his second appearance since returning from the injury sustained during the 2-2 draw with Astra Giurgiu in the Europa Cup qualifying rounds back in July.

The £12million signing has made 31 starts for West Ham since moving to London in the summer of 2014, scoring six goals in total.
