West Ham United's Development Squad are the new Premier League Cup champions after beating Hull City on penalties.

The Hammers travelled to the North East with a slender advantage, having won the first leg 1-0 - and were just seconds away form winning the trophy in normal time before Will Annan's equaliser for the Tigers deep into added-on time.

That took the game into extra time, where neither team managed to score meaning the tie went to penalties - which the Hammers won 5-3.

Marcus Browne, Reece Oxford, Sam Byram, Stephen Hendrie and Martin Samuelsen all netted for the young Hammers - but the crucial moment was goalkeeper Raphael Spiegel's spot kick saved from Daniel Batty.

Dev Squad manager Terry Westley, speaking to the club's website admitted that he was delighted with hhis team's performance over the course of the two legs. "It’s great to win," he said. "At this level we usually talk about development, but tonight we really wanted to win.

“We took it right to the very end, with extra time and penalties, but overall I think we deserved to win. We have to credit to Hull because they more than gave us a game; they were good, hard to break down and had ability.

“Over the two games we created a lot of chances and we really could have put the game to bed a lot sooner than we did - particularly in the first leg. But this is a huge milestone. Right from the start of the journey in Exeter, everyone has come on a long way - and we hope that progression continues."
