West Ham's revamp of the Academy squad continued today with the acquisition of talented young Portuguese forward Domingos Quina.

The capture of the 16-year-old from Chelsea has been hailed by the club as "a major coup", with Academy Director Terry Westley telling the club's website that he was persuaded to make the switch by first team boss Slaven Bilic.

"This is a big signing for the Academy and for West Ham United," he said. "Attracting a player of Domingos’s quality and potential to the club is recognition of the stature with which the West Ham United Academy is held.

"Domingos has seen that we can help him develop and make the most of his many talents. He wants to come on our journey.

"Slaven Bilic personally met with Domingos during the time he spent training with us and his interest in the player and the discussion they had undoubtedly helped to persuade him that West Ham was the right place to continue his development."

Quina, who prefers to play in the hole behind a striker/s had also been courted by Arsenal, Tottenham and both Manchester clubs but chose to remain in London with the Hammers.

West Ham have given long term contracts to several Academy youngsters in recent weeks, with full back Vashon Neufville, midfielder Anthony Scully, winger Joe Powell and forward Dan Kemp all signing new deals this month.
