Payet to represent West Ham in Euro 16 final

West Ham will be represented in the final of Euro 16 by French hero Dimitri Payet, who helped his country to a 2-0 semi final win against Germany in Marseille last night.

Although he didn't scored during the game - that particular honour falling to Atletico's Antoine Griezmann, who grabbed both of the hosts' goals - Payet was a constant threat once again and was well received by the home fans upon his substitution 19 minutes from time.

The victory helped set up a final clash this Sunday (10 July) against Portugal , whose run the the final - which took in matches against Iceland, Austria, Hungary, Croatia and Wales - must rank as one of the least taxing in recent national tournament history.

And that will be one of the factors leading to the French being strong favourites to lift the trophy in front of their own supporters this weekend.

West Ham's other representatives at Euro 16 have all returned home; Darren Randolph's Republic of Ireland were last 16 casualties against finalists France, whilst Angelo Ogbonna's Italy succumbed to the Germans in a quarter final penalty shootout.

The most unlikely Hammers hero however was Welsh defender James Collins, who ended a ridiculously-long season - lasting some 349 days - with a semi final appearance against Portugal.
