A memorial dedicated to Bobby Moore has been unveiled at the former West Ham United captain's childhood home.

A blue plaque was unveiled outside 43 Waverley Gardens, Barking this afternoon in front of a host of invited guests including Harry Redknapp and Bobby's daughter Roberta.

Roberta, speaking from a temporarily-erected platform outside her father's former home told guests: "This where it all began with dad kicking a ball in the streets. it ended at Wembley with him climbing the steps to collect the World Cup."

Earlier Redknapp, who played alongside Moore and shared a room with him occasionally on away trips had described Moore as "the greatest character and greatest footballer I knew".

Meanwhile former FA Chairman Greg Dyke - an English Heritage Blue Plaque Panel member - said the plaque was a fitting tribute to "the house and the streets where he grew up and first learned his footballing skills".
