Argentina have confirmed that Manuel Lanzini will not feature in next month's Olympic Games because of a knee injury.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder was set to join up with the rest of the Argentine squad next week but has pulled out of the tournament as a result of the knee injury sustained in a friendly against Colombia last weekend.Manuel Lanzini fue dado de baja por lesión del plantel que disputará los Juegos Olímpicos https://t.co/SDaGcihEFW pic.twitter.com/HuQqTBaD4v

“We are in close contact with Manuel and the AFA (Argentine Football Association), who have started a late-release replacement procedure with the IOC (International Olympic Committee),” club doc Stijn Vandenbroucke told whufc.com.
“Until he has been assessed by the IOC, he cannot be replaced, but after this process has been completed we want him to return to England to be assessed by our own medical staff as soon as possible.”
Lanzini, who has been replaced in the Argentine squad by Boca Juniors' highly-rated 20-year-old striker Cristian Pavón will return to London imminently for further treatment.
