Not good enough, warns Sullivan

West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan has criticised Slaven Bilic and his squad for their below-par performance at Stamford Bridge last night.

The Hammers were beaten 2-1 thanks to a last-minute effort by Diego Costa, who should have been dismissed earlier in the game for a reckless challenge on West Ham goalkeeper Adrian.

And Sullivan, speaking via the club's website this morning said that the team were simply "not good enough" against Antonio Conte's side.

"We are all disappointed that we could not take anything from Chelsea on Monday night," he said. "But if we are honest, we know that the performance was not good enough.

"We raised the bar with our performance levels last season and the players are capable of showing a lot more.

"We know the importance of bouncing straight back and we have the ideal opportunity to do that when we play Astra Giurgiu on Thursday night and then Bournemouth on Sunday."

Sullivan was also full of praise for debutant Arthur Masuaku - and keen to see the return of several players currently sidelined by injury.

"One good thing to come out of the Chelsea game was the impressive debut by our new left back; hopefully he will become a great signing for the club," he added.

"But the injuries are hurting us badly and it is disappointing that Andre Ayew will now face a spell on the sidelines. We need to get Manuel Lanzini, Andre Ayew, Diafra Sakho and Sofiane Feghouli back in action as soon as possible."
