The opposition view: Enner Valencia

Everton fans may be forgiven for feeling a little underwhelmed as their transfer deadline day consisted of a failed bid for Moussa Sissoko and a loan deal for the out-of-favour Enner Valencia.

So we thought we'd delve into the murky and mysterious world of Everton forums to see what the natives were writing about the capture of the Ecuador international...

"It's been a difficult window with inflated prices all round. In the light of day, I'm ok with us not spending big this window, with the proviso being that we do eventually spend big in either Jan or next summer and we get our top targets, not what is left over. It's Valencia I'm not happy with. It's a middle of the road buy that's not an improvement on the existing squad members. It seems to me its a buy to make sure we have some over up front. I'd rather bring in an untested youngster personally."
- Bill Gibbins

"Certain players suit certain clubs. We appreciate the hard working attitude of any player who puts a shift in, especially a striker leading the line. Whenever I've seen him play he looks dangerous, gets in good areas of the pitch, has got pace which we need up front, hassles defenders and good work ethic. I think playing in a team with Barkley, Mirrallas, Bolasie, Geri etc. he will get loads of chances to score, and he'll help create space for Rom as well. It could well be that he just suits us better than West Ham. I'm willing to give him a chance to show what he can do, an I reckon he will be a good signing as well, very useful addition to the squad. Good luck Enner, and welcome to Everton."

"Not impressed. He isn't an upgrade on what we already have. Wish him all the best but I hope he goes back to West Ham at the end of the season. Bony was available on loan and he can actually play a bit but we decide to get Valencia... Great!"
- Li Tie

"He's potentially a lot better than Kone, as said in another thread he's had bad injuries which have hampered his time at West Ham. I'm not excited by his arrival as we all expected much more but I'm intrigued to see how he gets on. If he can get back to his pre-injury form then we've got a very useful player on our hands, if not he goes back to West Ham. Fucked off, but will back the lad."
- EFC-Paul

He's better than Niasse, undeniably (as is my brother's dog). He's probably better than Kone. For the first half a dozen games after West Ham had signed him, I thought he was looking like quite a good player and Chelsea were linked with him last summer. Other than that, I have nothing positive to add and my mum always said that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. But my mum was a fool - he is turdo."

"Valencia is a decent player! Seems to have gone off the boil at West Ham but the ability is there. No risk for us and a player who will be busting a gut to impress if he wants to stay on over here. It was always going to be hard to get in a striker who was obviously going to be a back up for Lukaku. I actually really like this signing."
- Papa Shango

"I don't even know what to make of this signing. It just annoys me that we supposedly had all this money to spend all summer and yet we have resorted to taking West Ham's 3rd/4th choice striker on loan. I want to say maybe we should just trust Koeman on this one though? Maybe he feels Valencia still has a lot to prove? Maybe he feels a fresh start is exactly what he needs and that he'll be able to bring out the best of him under our new set up? Remains to be seen, I'll certainly give him a chance but on the whole I'm not entirely happy with this signing given the circumstances."
- Chief Hopper

"Now this one certainly looks like a panic addition. For a change I've actually seen one of our new signings play just prior to joining, (Bournemouth and Astra) and he looked distinctly average. I'd still play him over Kone though and if nothing else, he offers us pace and a decent work rate. He'll improve the squad marginally, but the failure to get a better player in is disappointing."
- paulbefc

"Koeman joined because he was excited about the project, told to watch this space and only got Enner Valencia on loan. He'll be driving down to the local rescue centre and be booting some cats."
- A force to be reckoned with

"In strictly 'excitement' terms this is like that last Christmas present you put off opening as a kid because you knew it was a pair of fucking socks, but anyway, he's put his signature beneath the Nil Satis logo so he's one of us now. Welcome to the club Enner, you have my full support."
- Ernest Green

"It's not even that...I'd prefer socks."
