Cresswell: my frustration

Aaron Cresswell has revealed how being sat on the sidelines for the first time in his career left him hugely disheartened.

The 26-year-old full back had missed just one game for the club since moving from Ipswich two season ago prior to be poleaxed by a cynical challenge from Karlsruher midfielder Grischa Promel during a pre-season friendly.

And, according to Cresswell, who this week received his first England call-up from temporary manager Gareth Southgate, the weeks immediately following his injury proved to be one of the most frustrating periods of his professional life.

"ďIt was very frustrating," he told the KUMB Podcast's Bianca Westwood. "Itís the first big injury Iíve ever had. Hopefully the last.

"To sit there and see the lads arenít doing so well, you want to help in any way you can and of course I still had months to go. Frustration was really kicking in but it made me a stronger person and you learn to deal with these things."

However Cresswell - who was dismissed during his first game back against Crystal Palace - for two 'bookable' offences - says he is enthused by the club's new 3-4-3 system which he feels he can adapt to easily.

"I like to get forward and create things," he said. "It seems to work well to have that extra man at the back so you have a licence to go forward.

"Thatís what I prefer to do in my game. Get further up the pitch. Link up with Dimi on the left and Manu and Nobes coming across. It suits me."
