Dimitri Payet spent his first morning with the Under 23s today, as he trained for the first time since demanding to leave West Ham.

The French international, who previously claimed that he was suffering from a back injury has been banished to work with Terry Westley's youngsters as a result of his refusal to play for the club.

Rather than work directly with the squad however, Payet is understood to have spent the morning training alone with Academy coaches working on his general fitness.

The 29-year-old, who earns in the region of £125,000 per week arrived at Chadwell Heath early this morning before being snapped by the Mail leaving the ground in his Mercedes, shortly before 10am.

Meanwhile former Hammer Tonly Gale believes West Ham should seek to sell the troubled star as soon as possible. "Get shot of him and get on with the football, because no one is bigger than the club," Gale told Premier League Daily.

"They'd be silly not to sell. If they let it run until the end of the season, he's not going to play any football, then all of a sudden you've got a player whose value is probably down by another £10m or so because of his age.

"Let's face it - he's had one season at West Ham. He had a rest because of the European Championships then came back and scored a couple of really good goals, but other than that he hasn't really performed.

"We're not just talking about someone who can be like an American footballer and just come on and take free-kicks. We're talking about someone who has to work for the team as well. Some of the games I've seen the attitude wasn't there."
