Paolo Di Canio, scorer of the winning goal at Old Trafford yesterday has sent out a special 'thankyou' to the fans for their incredible support.

Di Canio, whose 76th minute strike earnt the Hammers a place in the 5th round of the competition said:

"I want to say thank you very much once again for the fans' support; they were incredible. But then again, they are every time.

"I said if we don't win something I'll kill myself, and everybody said to me before the journey to Old Trafford 'you might as well kill yourself now' but I said 'no, I want to give something special to my supporters.

"I am very happy at West Ham and I want to spend all my time here." Hammers MD Paul Aldridge also thanked the fans for their support, which he described as 'well-behaved'.

"We would like to say than you, as a club, to each and every fan who made the long trip north: we only wish we could have taken more," he said via the club site.

"The players, to a man, commented on what a tremendous difference it made, and they can count themselves rightly proud that they really helped those out on the pitch. Not only was the support vocal, passionate, and good-humoured; it was also well behaved.

"The supporters, once more, were a credit to the club and we are as proud of them as they undoubtedly are of the players this morning."
