Former Hammers pair Frank Nouble and Zavon Hines have been given a free transfer by Southend United.
28-year-old Hines teamed up with Nouble, 25, at Roots Hall at Christmas when the former was given a six-month contract having recently departed Dagenham & Redbridge. However he was to make just five appearances for the Shrimpers - and only one since January - before being told his contract would not be extended.
Meanwhile Nouble, who has now featured for an incredible 15 clubs during his career also failed to secure an extension to a deal he signed earlier in the season. He too made just five appearances for Southend without finding the net.
Both players featured for West Ham during Gianfranco Zola's short-lived reign as manager between 2008 and 2010, when a string of enforced sales left the Italian needing to use some of the younger members of his squad.
Despite losing key players such as Anton Ferdinand and George McCartney, Zola managed to retain the club's Premier League status - unlike his successor Avram Grant, who relegated the club during his first and only season at the Boleyn Ground.
* Southend United finished one point shy of the play offs in League One, directly below Millwall who returned to the Championship yesterday courtesy of a 1-0 win in the Final against Bradford City.
