West Ham face competition in Iheanacho race

West Ham may face competition in the battle to sign Manchester City youngster Kelechi Iheanacho.

The 20-year-old Nigerian has been linked with a move to the Olympic Stadium for some considerable time, but remains a City player.

And West Ham's inability to complete a deal has alerted a string of other Premier League clubs, with Crystal Palace the latest to be linked with the promising youngster Darren Lewis, Mirror).

Although he has been told he can leave the Etihad Stadium, Iheanacho has previously indicated his desire to stay and fight for a place. Everton and Swansea are also said to be monitoring the situation.

* In other news, West Ham are reported to have made a bid worth around 7million for Iheanacho's fellow country man Henry Onyekuru (Pieter-Jan Calcoen, HLN).

The bid, which KUMB understands has been rejected falls short of the 8million valuation fee set by his current club, Eupen, who finished fourth from bottom of the Jupiler League last season.

* West Ham are one of several clubs keeping tabs on Manchester United defender Chris Smalling (various sources).

The England international is reported to be surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and the Hammers - who made tentative enquiries into his availability last summer - are one of several clubs to have expressed an interest.
