Snodgrass fires back in new twitter row

Robert Snodgrass has hit back at David Sullivan after the West Ham chairman told a reporter that "my kids begged me not to sign" the winger.

The Scottish international was signed from Hull City for £10million last January, but sent out on a season-long loan by Slaven Bilic in the summer after failing to impress during his few months at West Ham.

Speaking in an interview with The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg, published earlier today, Sullivan - when asked about the club's recent transfer business - said that his sons had urged him not to sign Snodgrass, nor 33-year-old Jose Fonte from Southampton who also arrived during the same transfer window.

"Iím very involved with bringing in the players," he is reported to have said. "Iím not involved in the strategy. The manager [Slaven Bilic] says he wants Fonte from Southampton and Snodgrass from Hull. My kids begged me not to sign them."

Having been tagged in a number of social media posts linking to Sullivan's comments, the 30-year-old Glaswegian - who has made 16 appearances for Villa this season - hit back by sarcastically offering his gratitude to the chairman for his backing.

"Everyone tagging me in this like your all suprised," [sic] he wrote on his twitter timeline. "Thanks for your support, MR CHAIRMAN" - before adding a 'thumbs-up' emoji.

Portuguese international Jose Fonte, who is currently sidelined through injury, is yet to respond to Sullivan's comments.
