Speaking to West Ham's website, Mario said that he was delighted to be continuing his football journey at West Ham, having struggled recently to secure a first team spot at Inter.

"I am really happy to be here," he said. "It’s a really amazing experience to join this team. I have spoken with everyone around the team and it will be exciting to play in the Premier League. I'm also really happy to be training for an amazing coach."

Mario, who will wear the vacant #18 shirt last worn by Morgan Amalfitano, also revealed that he had spoken with international team mate Jose Fonte ahead of the switch.

"Jose explained to me a little more about the club and also the song we have, 'Forever Blowing Bubbles'. It’s a historic club with an amazing stadium and amazing players. I am just trying to learn a little bit more about the club every day; now I have some time."
