West Ham United's pre-season is beginning to take shape with the announcement of five fixtures to take place in July.

KUMB revealed earlier that the Hammers will be travelling to Switzerland at the beginning of July to face FC Winterthur, who play in Switzerland's second tier.

And following that brief trip to the European mainland, West Ham will face four EFL sides in preparation for the new season - Wycombe Wanderers, Preston North End, Aston Villa and Ipswich Town.

Pre-season commences with a trip to Switzerland where the Hammers face Winterthur at a venue to be confirmed on Sunday 8 July. Wycombe Wanderers, newly-promoted to League One provide the next test at Adams Park on Saturday, 14 July.

The team West Ham beat in 2005's play-off final at Cardiff, Preston North End, provide United's next opposition at Deepdale on Saturday 21 July. Then it's off to Walsall's Bescot Stadium where the Hammers are set to face penniless Aston Villa on Wednesday, 25 July.

Thr round of fixtures culminates with a trip to Portman Road to face Ipswich Town on Saturday, 28 July. It will be the first meeting between the two sides since July 2014, when the two sides played out a fairly-forgettable goalless draw.

"We will use our [Swiss] training camp and these fixtures to increase the players’ fitness levels and to help them to improve their relationship on the pitch," new Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini told whufc.com.

"We will work hard every day in pre-season and take each of these matches very seriously, so that we can continue to get better and better and be ready for the Premier League.

“I know English football and all four of our opponents are proud and historic clubs who will provide us with strong challenges. These matches will also be opportunites for us to show our supporters the work we have been doing on the training pitch/

"I am sure, like me, the fans are already looking forward to them.”
