West Ham centre half Fabian Balbuena says he is living every South American player's dream by representing West Ham in the Premier League.

The Paraguayan international, who is currently participating in a training camp arranged by new Paraguay coach Juan Carlos Osorio says that it is every aspiring player's dream to earn a ticket to Europe - and for many, England.

"The dream of every player, at least in South America, is to play in the big leagues,Ē he told whufc.com. "The Premier League is one of the best, if not the best.

"It has the best players in the world and every kid, when they start playing football in South America, can see the Premier League matches and dream about playing in one of those teams. So obviously it was a motivation, a challenge.

"I also thought about the national team, which is going through a transitional period. Itís important to have as many players as possible in the big leagues. We have them in Spain, in France and itís really important for Paraguayan players to develop their potential."

Balbuena, who arrived at West Ham for a bargain £4million during pre-season has earned rave reviews for his recent performances alongside fellow new arrival Issa Diop, who cost the club more than five times as much.

And as a result, the Paraguayan - the senior partner in the relationship - views himself as a trailblazer for fellow aspiring South American footballers. "Paraguay always had very powerful defenders who play with 100 per cent determination," he added.

"I have to keep that up because if you do a good job, youíll open all the doors for future footballers. First of all, I think of myself, grow up as a person and as a professional and I want to keep the bar high for Paraguayan footballers."

Balbuena has made eight appearances under Manuel Pellegrini since moving to London from Corinthians in July, and has received one booking.
