Julian Dicks has parted company with Heybridge Swifts following a disappointing start to the new season.

The Essex-based, Isthmian League Division North side opened their campaign with five straight defeats prompting the former Hammer to resign from his position with immediate effect.

Dicks' second spell at Heybridge lasted little more than two months

"I have resigned from my role as manager," he said on Wednesday morning. "It wasn’t an easy decision but, at this time it is the right one for me and my family.

"I appreciate all the support I have received from the fans and the club as a whole. Now the [club's new] pitch is ready I’m sure things will come together. I wish the club all the best going forward."

And responding to the announcement, Swifts released a statement confirming Dicks' departure. "We are sorry to announce the departure of Julian Dicks from his role as Heybridge Swifts manager," it read.

"We are in the process of appointing a replacement manager in a caretaker role and then making a permanent appointment as soon as is practical."

Former KUMB columnist Dicks enjoyed spells as a coaching assistant under Slaven Bilic at West Ham and West Bromwich Albion, but has been forced to work in the minor leagues when operating alone.

He also spent a brief spell as manager of West Ham United Women before teaming up with Bilic at Upton Park, which also signalled the end of his first spell with Swifts.
